We are honored and humbled to share that lil’gourmets has been awarded the Clean Label Project™ Purity Award. The Purity Award represents the ultimate standard of the Clean Label Project certification, which conducts rigorous, independent food testing for over 400 different contaminants including heavy metals, chemicals, plastics, pesticides and other toxins.
Many of you have asked about our approach to quality and testing, given some of the concerning news reports that have recently surfaced regarding heavy metals in baby foods. We founded lil’gourmets based on our values of quality and integrity, and we made choices along the way to include only the best and highest quality organic ingredients in our recipes. We make this promise to the families we serve everyday, and we are thrilled that the Clean Label Project Purity award now validates our commitment to excellence.
We are so proud to award lil’gourmets with the Clean Label Purity Award. lil’gourmets is trailblazing a new category with their uniquely delicious, nutrient-dense, globally-inspired fresh veggie meals,” says, Jaclyn Bowen MPH, MS, food safety quality and systems engineer and Executive Director of Clean Label Project. And now with the Purity Award, parents can feel good knowing that lil’gourmets is going above and beyond to prevent harmful toxins, herbicides and pesticides from contaminating their cups of veggie goodness.
How does the Clean Label Project Testing work?
The Clean Label Project, a nonprofit organization that focuses on health and transparency for product labeling to help empower consumers, uses random retail sampling and unbiased testing to certify qualifying brands.
lil’gourmets was rigorously tested against 560 other baby and toddler food brands to look for harmful substances, chemicals of concern, and industrial and environmental toxins and contaminants (like heavy metals, pesticide residues, and plasticizers) that have the long-term potential to adversely affect health and well-being. Some of these contaminants include:
- Lead
- Total Arsenic
- Cadmium
- Mercury
- Bisphenols (BPA/BPS)
- 300+ Pesticides- including Glyphosate (the active ingredient in RoundUp)
- Melamine and its analogues like cyanuric acid, ammeline, and ammelide
- Mycotoxins
- And more!
Clean Label Project uses benchmarking to identify the very best products in any given category to determine products that are “best-in-class.”
